The auction timer extends the whole auction when a bid comes in near the closing time
This gives everyone a fair chance to bid right at the end. When a bid comes in close to the closing time, the countdown timer is extended so other bidders still have a chance to respond. It works in stages, and the extended bid time gets shorter the longer the auction runs:
When a bid is placed with under 5 minutes left on the timer, it is extended by 5 minutes.
When a bid is placed with under 2 minutes left on the timer, it is extended by 2 minutes.
When a bid is placed with under 1 minute left on the timer, it is extended by 1 minute, until the bidding stops.
Individual lot timers. Lots with no new bids close early
To keep the auction moving, we use Accelerated Lot Closing (ALC) alongside our Dynamic Auction Closing.
A lot that has never received a bid stays open until the main auction closes.
A lot's timer never runs past the auction's own closing time. If it would end later, the auction's closing time is used instead.
